Clounmacon B 3-03 Knocknagoshel B 0-10

The Div 5 NKFL Final Sponsored by McCarthy Insurance Listowel took place on Friday evening July 3rd at 7-30pm in Duagh. It finished Clounmacon B 3-3 Knocknagoshel B 0-10,. A three Goal Blitz wins the title for Clounmacon. On a perfect night for football both sides entertained the crowd with some very exciting moments and as I have said many times in the past goals win matches and yes this game was a typical example of that, this first thirty minutes of this game was fast and furious. Clounmacon got off to a dream start with a goal after two minutes scored by Fintan McEnery, that seemed to lift Knocknagoshel and points from James Walsh in the 8th and 12th minutes and on the 13th minute Michael Reidy had Knock level, all points from play. Seamus Twomey had Clounmacon all square on the 17th minute a point from play, Knock came again with points from play on the 22nd minute from Danny Walsh, and James Walsh had Knock ahead with a point from play on the 24th minute, but on the 27th minute Knock were dealt another when Conor Barrett the Knock goalie fumbled with the ball and Clounmacons Anthony Stack punched the ball to the back of the net. Up to that stage Knocknagoshel were playing well and seemed to be in control but again found themselves behind, James Walsh on the 29th minute and John Brosnan in the 30th minute had Knock all square with points from play. So the sides went in at half time all square Clounmacon 2-1 Knocknagoshel 0-7.
For the start of the second half Knock made a change, Mike Keane for Connor Lyons, and just like the first half it was Clounmacon who were first off the mark with a point from a free on the 36th min scored by Seamus Twomey, and at this stage it was all Clounmacon but on the 37th minute Clounmacon were dealt a blow when the umpire drew referee Gerdy O’Carroll attention to an off the ball incident which resulted in Anthony Stack of Clounmacon being shown a straight red card. Sub for Knock Seamus Murphy for Conor Barrett, this sending off seemed to drive on Clounmacon and we have seen it many times in the past where the team with the fourteen men seem to play better and this was certainly the case here Knocknagoshel were not able to take any advantage. On the 39th minute Clounmacon were awarded a penalty and up stepped Seamus Twomey showing a Captains leadership he sunk it to the back on the Knock net and yes it was game really over, it took Knock sixteen minutes to register there first score of the second half, but Clounmacon remained in control and on the 47th minute they introduced there former trainer Enda Murphy for Des Daley. Eamon O’Connor had a point for Knock on the 48th min and while Clounmacon were playing the better football they had missed some easy scoreable chances so the game was still on a knife edge and with just two points between the sides it was hard to call, Tony Walsh added another point from play on the 52nd min for Clounmacon and they introduced two more subs, Stephen O’Connor for Dermot Carmody, and John Walsh for Damien Murphy. James Walsh added two more points for Knock in the in the 55th and 59th minutes both from play. So Clounmacon managed to hold out. Knocknagoshel B Team: Conor Barrett, Chris O’Mahony, Niall Walsh, Michael Keane, John Brosnan 0-1, Michael Herlihy, Declan Connell, Michael Reidy Capt 0-1, Michael Brosnan, Brian O’Connor, Eamon O’Connor,0-1, Brendan Brosnan, James Walsh 0-6, Noel Brosnan, Danny Walsh 0-1.
